Luke Denman, 34, and Airan Berry, 41, were arrested on May 4 and charged with terrorism and conspiracy following an uprising nicknamed ‘Piggy Bay’ in 1961, which referred to the failed coup against Fidel Castro.
Two former Green Berets were sentenced by a Venezuelan court to 20 years in prison for their role in a failed coup attempt against President Nicolas Maduro. On Friday night, Tarek William Saab, Venezuelan attorney general, announced that the two were convicted after a ‘trial’ that they were not allowed to see their lawyers.

Saab seemed to have skipped the number of months in which they were punished.

The trial continues with the remaining defendant.

Two captains of the Venezuelan National Guard, Antonio José Sequea and Víctor Pimienta, were among the Venezuelans arrested in the blocked raid.
They had participated in the previous uprising against Maduro and are believed to be among those leading Venezuelans in the coup.
Former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson flew to Venezuela last month to urg Maduro to release several jailed Americans as a gesture of goodwill aimed at reducing tensions with the United States.

Seeking freedom for Americans held by hostile foreign governments and criminal organizations, the Richardson Center did not confirm who it was lobbying for.

During press conferences, Maduro presented the allegedly signed contract as evidence that Guaidó was involved in the plan to overthrow him. On May 8, Venezuela demanded the extradition of Goudreau and two US-based Venezuelans for their role in the failed attack.

In a previous video broadcast aired on Venezuelan state television on May 7, Denman claimed that Goudreau first reached him in early December, but only limited details were given about it. He was questioned about the leadership of the plan and when asked who commanded Goudreau, he claimed to be Donald Trump.
