Chloe Wiegand Death

A grandfather who allegedly dropped his 18-month-old granddaughter from the 11th floor of a cruise ship docked in Puerto Rico in July has been charged with negligent homicide.

Indiana man Salvatore ‘Sam’ Anello, had held 18-month-old Chloe Wiegand up to what he called a ‘wall of windows’ to allow her to bang on the glass, something she loved to do at home.

At that time, they were on the 11th floor of the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas cruise in the playground. He held Chloe in the window but said he didn’t know it had opened. Chloe fell directly, fell to the pier below and let out a cry of “blood curd” along the way.

A judge ordered Anello’s arrest on Monday.

However, Anello’s grieving family said that the criminal charges have ‘poured salt on the wounds’ for the family.

Chloe Wiegand Family Statement

Lawyers representing the family in a civil lawsuit against the cruise line said it was “clearly a tragic accident.” ‘The singular goal of the family remains that something like this never happens again. If the cruise lines had simply followed the proper safety guidelines for the windows, this accident would probably never have happened. ‘ A family lawyer said Chloe asked her grandfather to pick her up so she could hit the glass in the playground. He blamed the cruise company for leaving the window inexplicably open. Days after the accident, Chloe’s father, Alan, and his mother, Kimberly, of Southbend, Indiana, told the Today to show that they don’t blame Anello for Chloe’s death. They also slammed the cruise and said their explanation for the open window, which was open for ‘ventilation’, is not good enough.

Kimberly revealed that when they first told her that something had happened to Chloe, she didn’t know she had gone through the window and ran to her, demanding to know where her baby was, then looked out and saw the concrete she fell into.

‘When they told me Chloe had died, I didn’t know she went out a window. I just saw Sam standing next to the wall of windows, screaming and banging on it and there was like somebody trying to stop me.

‘I just kept saying, ‘Take me to my baby. Where is my baby?’

‘I didn’t know she had gone out the window. Then I looked over, and it wasn’t water beneath, it was concrete. To lose our baby this way is just unfathomable.

‘I never want another mother to have to experience what I had to, to see what I had to see or scream or how I had to scream,’ she said.

The parents do not blame Anello for their daughter’s death and say he is still distraught.

Statement

His father is a cop from South Bend, Indiana. It was his first night on the ship. Anello’s social networks give the impression of a proud and loving grandfather who adored his grandchildren. Mike Hamann, his boss in the IT department of St. Joseph County told ABC 6: ‘Sal works in the IT department, he is a very valuable employee. Wonderful, I would simply do anything for you.

Scott Ruszkowski, South Bend police chief, received more support, who told WSBT22 in Indiana that it was not true that Chloe was hung from a window. “The South Bend Police Department offers its deepest condolences to Officer Alan Wiegand and his family during this difficult time after the tragic loss of his son while he was in Puerto Rico,” the department said in a statement.

“The department asks the community to pray for the entire Wiegand family while they cry and respect their privacy.”

Royal Caribbean said after the accident that they were “deeply sad” about the accident. Anello is being held on bail of $ 80,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on November 20.
