Abdullah, 30, who has been in custody since last year, pleaded not guilty in New York federal court on Wednesday and was arrested without bail. He is facing multiple crimes related to alleged conspiracy and support for a terrorist organization, which is likely to face a life sentence of 20 years.
Authorities say it was researching American skyscrapers as potential targets – but it wasn’t immediately clear if there were any New York landmarks on its list.
Filipino news sources widely reported that he was arrested in July 2019, but details of the alleged conspiracy were unknown at the time. According to the website Rappler, when Abdullah was arrested, he had a bomb and a bomb machine.
“Nearly 20 years after the September 11 terrorist attacks, there are those who are determined to launch terrorist attacks against the citizens of the United States. “We claim that Abdullah is one of them.
