Christopher Buggs Background & Arrested

Buggs, who was imprisoned without bail while awaiting trial for more than three years on Rikers Island, is accused of murdering 55-year-old Ernesto Brownlee, who fatally shot in front of a bodega in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, on January 29, 2018, York Daily News reported. Brownlee, a former convict who killed two people in the 1980s, was shot three times in the chest, and police caught and arrested Buggs three days later.

Sources tell the Daily News that in a different criminal defamation case, a judge sentenced Buggs to only 30 days in prison, which was mistakenly listed as the final verdict in the murder case. Prison staff didn’t notice the error before Buggs posted it early Tuesday.

“We are aware of this incident and a full investigation is under way into how it happened,” Peter Thorne, spokesperson for the New York City Correction Agency, told Fox News. “We are currently working with our law enforcement to return this person to custody.”

The Correctional Intelligence Bureau has been notified of the early release and is working with joint law enforcement to return the person to custody. An investigation is in progress.
