Connor Michael Lewis Arrest & Charge

Connor Michael Lewis was arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder in the shooting of the 18-year-old Artavious Quarterman, Sanford police said Thursday. After the Quarterman died from his injuries, the authorities increased the charge to murder, police said Friday.

According to the police, Lewis called 911 immediately after 8 pm and said that several girls had hit the front door of his house. The police said Lewis was heard during the interview, “Oh, you’re so scary. You’re so scary.”

Lewis told the officer that he and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument and told him to leave the house, according to the police. She said that according to the records, her girlfriend’s family came to her house later and hit the door and window.

Sanford police said it was heard calling the group Lewis names and then a gunshot was fired.

The police said that Lewis’ girlfriend was shot in the head of the quarter member who accompanied his mother to the house. According to officials, he was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Sanford police said the group went home to retrieve Lewis’ girlfriend and belongings.

“The fact that a young man’s life is now at risk is pointless,” Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith said. “The Sanford police officers were minutes away from home and I think they could separate and alleviate the situation in minutes.”

Lewis is accused of second-degree murder and shooting a house.

“The fact that a young man’s life is now at risk is senseless,” said Chief Cecil Smith. “Sanford police officers were minutes away from the home, and I believe would have been able to separate and de-escalate the situation in a matter of moments. When you shoot a firearm, you must understand that the consequences of that can be deadly in any situation.”
