Darrian Young, the animal control officer for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office who was involved in an accident on S. Custer Rd., Died early Saturday morning. She was officially pronounced dead at 12:16 a.m., according to Major Jeff Kemp. in addition to her duties as an Animal Control Officer, Darrian was a member of the Monroe County Sheriff Posse.

Around 8 a.m. Thursday morning, Young was driving an Animal Control Division vehicle and was hit by a minivan at the intersection of South Custer Road and Raisinville Road. Officials suspect the driver of the minivan, a 44-year-old woman, was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Young, who was driving a fully marked unit, was involved in an accident on Raisinville Rd. Where the other driver was reportedly drunk. Upon completion of the Michigan State Police investigation, the report will be forwarded to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine if criminal charges should be filed and what charges should be filed. The driver of the minivan was a 44-year-old Hudson woman.
“Officer Young was an enthusiastic, energetic, animal lover who had a particular passion for horses,” said Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone. “Officer Young and her fiancé Zach Farris recently purchased a horse farm in Exeter Township and had plans to be married in the near future.”
Authorities said the suspect ignored a red light and hit Young, causing a third vehicle to be hit. The suspected woman suffered serious injuries and was also taken to a hospital. The driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries, according to authorities.
