Investigation
Thomas said earlier this week whether Vowell knew the two victims or not.
Vowell’s body was found around 3 pm. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in local time on Saturday. Authorities said that his identity has been determined, but that an autopsy will be held. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Thomas said Wednesday that while his boat was recovered, Vowell escaped from the shooting location on foot and the car he drove to the boat ramp was also seized.
He was wanted twice for first degree murder. Officials said he was deemed armed and dangerous.
The search took place in a large, extremely rural area – Reelfoot Lake State Park, close to the Missouri and Kentucky borders. Reelfoot Lake covers 15,000 acres and is surrounded by thick, dark swamps filled with cypress trees.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation posted footage showing them searching the area on Friday and showing the adverse conditions they were dealing with.
