Former chess champion, 19-year-old Della-Marie Walcott died on Sunday.
Walcott was in a coma for nearly four and a half years due to complications that occurred after a brain surgery in December 2015.
On Sunday, the Trinidad and Tobago Chess Association (TTCA) wished condolences to Walcott’s family.
“On behalf of TTCA, we wish Debra and Dominic (father of Della-Marie) and his brother Alex, a former chess player. He rests in eternal peace and gives peace and comfort to the family of God.”
Respecting the former chess champion, the Association noted that Walcott, a former National Youth Chess Champion, won multiple medals in various regional chess tournaments and was a member of the Trinidad and Tobago women’s chess team twice at the World Chess Olympics.
He also added that his mother was a former member of the TTCA Executive Board and still serves as an executive member of the Valkyries Chess Club.
