Dennis Wyman faces charges of hate crime in California after saying that prosecutors deliberately drove his car to the Black crowd of people after racially insulting the group. A security guard on duty at a local hospital was injured and treated.
The incident took place on June 29, in the parking lot of the Staybridge Suites hotel on Prairie Street in Torrance, California, the police announced in a news statement. Wyman was diagnosed and arrested more than a week later.
Incident & Police Response
The Torrance Police Department announced in a news release that officers were sent to Staybridge Suites at 23:30. On a gun-fired report on June 29. Investigators said the clash started with a racial slurry yell at a group of Black people in the hotel car park, a suspect now identified as Red Wyne Beach Dennis Wyman. The police did not specify what could trigger the debate or whether Wyman recognized individuals in the parking lot.
Police said Wyman got into the car and headed for the group. The department did not specify how fast Wyman was driving. One of the individuals was identified as a 50-year-old security guard who was off duty but armed with a gun at the time. The police said that the man had fired several shots into Wyman’s vehicle before he crashed into the car. Wyman fled the crime scene.
Torrance Police said that the injured man, whom he did not describe by their name, experienced “lower limb injuries”. The medics treated the victim at the scene before taking him to a local hospital. His condition was not released. Prosecutors said the man was the father of one of the people in the parking lot and approached the scene to defend the group.
Dennis Wyman Arrest & Charge
Torrance Police detected Wyman and issued an order for his arrest. Redondo Beach Police and officers found Wyman on July 8 and detained him during a traffic stop. According to a report by the police, Wyman was initially charged with attempted murder.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney General has decided not to attempt an accusation of murder. Instead, the prosecutor caused another person to be seriously injured by two attacks and one hit and run drive with a deadly weapon to Wyman. The prosecutor increased the charges by classifying Wyman’s defendant actions as hate crime.
Wyman was arrested on July 8 and appointed to the men’s prison in Los Angeles. Prosecutors initially bailed $ 115,000. However, Los Angeles State prisoner records show that the link has been increased to $ 1.002 million.
Wyman was originally scheduled to appear on July 13, but the case was postponed until July 14. The case was being processed by the Torrance Municipal Court.
