According to court documents reviewed by the Los Angeles Times, former Angels employee Eric Kay was accused by federal authorities in Texas of distributing fentanyl in connection with the overdose of pitcher Tyler Skaggs’ death.

Eric Kay Arrest & Charge
A statement in support of the criminal complaint filed against Kay in the US District Court in Fort Worth said Skaggs, a longtime member of Angels’ media relations department, had a “history of narcotic transactions” and that Kay “would distribute these pills [to Skaggs”. . ] and others at work and at work. ”
Kay voluntarily surrendered to the authorities on Friday, according to court records. Last week’s complaint was sealed on Friday.
Skaggs died
Skaggs, 27, died in the Southlake hotel room on July 1 before playing Angels Texas Rangers. She was found fully clothed in her bed with no signs of trauma. An autopsy report released on August 30 revealed that Skaggs had a combination of alcohol and pain relievers fentanyl and oxycodone in his system at the time of death.
In response to Skaggs’ death, the MLB and the MLB Players Association agreed to begin testing for opioids and cocaine as part of a joint drug therapy program in December.
Investigation
In response to the accusation, the angels said in a statement Friday, “We learned that there are unacceptable behavior that violates our code of conduct and we have taken steps to resolve this. Our research also confirmed that no one in administration was aware of, or was aware of, providing opioids to any player or that Tyler was using opioids. ”
Kay initially told the authorities that she was the last to see Skaggs when they entered the hotel and was not sure if the pitcher used drugs other than marijuana.
However, inspectors received text messages between Kay and Skaggs the afternoon before the overdose.
