A Capitol Police officer is hailed as hero for driving a group of protesters from the Senate hall while violating the Capitol. A video shows Eugene Goodman facing a large group of protesters and apparently stands alone against them.

Igor Bobic, a political reporter at HuffPost, became the first to share the video during a series of live tweets on January 6, 2021, when pro-Trump supporters violated the Capitol building.

“Here’s the terrible moment when protesters walked into the building from the first floor and out of the Senate room,” he wrote on Twitter.

Wilson detailed the action in the video.

“@ Igorbobic is this moment in striking images. In front of the officer, there is a mass of rebels going up the stairs. The USCP officer looks to his left. Between these two chairs is the entrance to the senate floor. He pulled them to the right away from their targets,” he wrote.

The video shows the officer holding the crowd lower before retreating after the Senate chamber was evacuated.

Five People died including a USCP Police officer

After the riots in the Capitol Building, 5 people died, including police officer Brian Sicknick, who was shot with a fire extinguisher and later died in the hospital. The other four, Kevin Greeson, 55, Benjamin Phillips, 50, Rosanne Boyland, from Kennesaw, Georgia, and Air Force Vet Ashli Babbitt, 35, who were shot by the Capitol Police, reportedly passed away due to medical conditions that are not detailed.

The White House made a statement after the news, mourning Babbitt’s death.

“The White House is mourning the loss of life yesterday and giving sympathy to their families and loved ones,” Press Minister Judd Deere said. “We also continue to pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
