Investigation

Purcell received a search warrant from Garcia to obtain an oral cotton swab when detectives questioned him earlier this year, and sent the DNA sample for forensic testing. Transactions were delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak, and officials learned that Garcia had moved to Dallas in the meantime. He was arrested by federal law enforcement agencies in Texas last month after his DNA was re-matched with the 1996 case.
