The Senator said in a statement on Twitter that Harrison Deal is a 20-year-old Georgia student working as a field worker for U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler, who died in a car accident on December 4, 2020.
Harrison was studying at the University of Georgia, according to his LinkedIn page, and started working for Loeffler’s campaign in July. He was survived by his father, Curt Deal, who was re-elected as Bulloch County Seat 2A Commissioner earlier this year; her mother Jenni Groover Accord; and two sisters.
On Friday, December 4, the deputy of a Georgia senator who died in a car accident was mourned by state lawmakers. Three different cars were involved in the accident and injured three people besides Deal, who was treated at the scene. It is unclear whether Deal was performing its campaign missions at the time of the accident. Deal was a former intern for GOP Sen David Perdue and a close family friend of Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. He would graduate from the University of Georgia in 2022.

Loeffler tweeted Friday afternoon, “We are deeply mourning the loss of Harrison Deal. My heart hurts for his family, and Jeff and I will continue to surround them with love and prayer for the coming days. Harrison was a popular member of our campaign team. “Loeffler, a Republican appointed to the Senate by Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp in December 2019, competes to defend his seat against Democratic US Senate candidate Raphael Warnock in the second round race on January 5.
Harrison was dating Kemp’s daughter, Lucy Kemp, according to his Facebook profile. Lucy Kemp is also a student at the University of Georgia.
“More importantly, Harrison was a smart, intelligent, loving, loyal, and distinguished youth,” Loeffler said. Harrison embodied the best of this campaign and the best of our state. We will live and honor the memory of Harrison forever and I ask every Georgian to join us to pray for his family at this difficult time. ”
After learning of Deal’s death, Loeffler canceled a campaign stop in Savannah with Vice President Mike Pence and Republican senator candidate David Perdue. Instead, according to The Washington Times, Washington returned to D.C.
The accident occurred on the morning of December 4 in Pooler, Georgia, about 14 miles west of Savannah in the southern part of the state, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. According to Pooler Police, three vehicles were involved in the accident on I-16 East at around 10:00 am.
“Pooler Police is currently at the scene with a major accident, including a vehicle heading 16 East and burning on the Pooler Parkway. “You are encouraged to look for an alternative way, as this area will be closed as First Responders work to help the relevant people and clear the scene,” the department said on Facebook.

Deal, from Statesboro, helped his father, Curt Deal’s campaign for Bulloch County Commissioner before campaigning for Loeffler. “As the sign says, he’s the most honest, reliable and experienced candidate on the ballot !!” he wrote.
Curt Deal, owner of the Deal Funeral Home in Statesboro, defeated challenger Chris Akins, a local farmer and businessman, reports The Statesboro Herald. The Herald article wrote that Deal’s father was a member of Statesboro’s First Baptist Church; Harrison Deal seems to have shared his father’s beliefs as he regularly uses biblical passages in his Facebook photos.

Kemp shared a touching letter to Deal’s family Friday after learning of the car accident. “Today we have lost a member of our” Kemp Strong “family and words cannot express how important Harrison Deal’s life, love and support are to us. He was a deeply devoted, unmatched honest and incredibly benevolent person. Harrison was the son and brother of Kemp, whom we do not have.
“Our prayers are with the Deal Family and countless others as we mourn Harrison’s tragic loss. It brought people together and made everyone feel important and special. ”
Kemp and his wife also canceled their meeting with Pence on Friday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
