Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Jack Sherman passed away at the age of 64.

The group confirmed the news in a statement on Twitter: “We wish Jack Sherman of the RHCP family would sail smoothly to the other worlds because he himself has passed. Jack played on our first US tour as well as our debut album.

He was a unique man, and we always thank him for the good, the bad and the in-between. Peace on the Boogie platform. ”

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Sherman replaced founding member Hillel Slovak in December 1983, joining the LA-based alternative rock band best known for hits such as Under The Bridge and Californication.

In early 1985, the Slovakian band, What Is This? He left and asked to rejoin Red Hot Chili Peppers and asked the group to fire Sherman.

His later career included credits for Bob Dylan’s film Knocked Out Loaded and collaborations with Undertones’s Feargal Sharkey and US singer-songwriter Peter Case.

Sherman contributed backing vocals to Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 1989 album Mother’s Milk, which includes the popular cover of the band’s Stevie Wonder’s Higher Ground song.

Sherman was not included when the band was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 because it was not a current or founding member. At that time he told Billboard: “I’m being tarnished and this sucks.”

The current cast of Red Hot Chili Peppers includes singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith.
