Kathleen Emery is best known as the wife of American baseball manager Gary Hughes. He served as a coach and scout. In June 2020, after her husband was diagnosed with cancer, she reportedly died on September 19, 2020.

Hughes lives in Aptos, California, with his wife Kathy on the Monterey Peninsula. They have nine children from two marriages, ages 44 to 57: Garie, Paul, Matthew, Marc, Ann, Blaire, Michael, Sam, and Katharine. Michael is Marlins’ guest clubhouse manager. Everyone calls him Rock. Sam is the national cross of the Cubs.
Hughes has 20 grandchildren and two grandchildren. The name Michael Rock is named after a younger brother of Gary Hughes in the Pi Kappa Alpha Brotherhood. The young man died in an automobile accident, and Hughes had to identify his body.

Hughes, who spent 54 years playing professional baseball, died on Saturday at the age of 79.
Hughes, Babe Ruth of the scouting world and the most beautiful heart and soul of the baseball game, has been battling liver cancer since being diagnosed in June 2020 and has died with his family. He is a professional scout for the organization who passed away after Marlins’ 54-year career, which includes the time to enter the GM Assistant and Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame.
