While the police officers were investigating the shooting of the boy, Foley said the police had received information about 4:40 am and took them to a nearby home, where many adults apparently died of bullet wounds.

Foley, Kezzie Childs, 42, Raymond Childs, 42, Elijah Childs, 18, Rita Childs, 13, and Kiara Hawkins, 19, and Hawkins’ unborn child, died after being found in the home.

IMPD President Randal Taylor said the police believed the fatal gunfire was not random, but a targeted attack by an attacker or attacker.

He said the attack came days after police department officials announced their latest efforts to combat violent, drug-related crimes and “violence stemming from poverty or despair”.

But what we saw this morning was a different evil. Based on evidence gathered so far, what happened this morning was mass murder, Taylor said at a press conference. “More than that, we believe it’s not random.”

Taylor said this was the largest mass casualty in the city in over a decade and urged the public to contact the police and pass on any information they might have about the murders.

Mayor Joe Hogsett described the shooting as “mass murder” and said that an individual or individual brought “terror to our community”. He said the FBI contacted officials with the Indianapolis field office, the local US Attorney’s Office and other law enforcement for assistance in the investigation of fire.

“As I speak, I want those in charge to know that all the power of local, state and federal law enforcement comes to them,” he said.
