Latrece Curry Involved in a Police Chase
Latrece Curry was involved in an intense police pursuit in Kentucky that spanned two counties and ended with the withdrawal of guns. The follow-up began after a family dispute with her husband and she ran away from home before the police arrived. Chief James Richardson rushed away when a deputy followed him, launching a hot chase involving multiple police cars.
When Curry pulls aside at a parking lot in Hodgenville to avoid a roadblock, his chase comes to an end in a high-risk fashion. Officers then pulled the guns and approached the car and shouted at the suspect to get out of his vehicle, showing bodycam footage.
Chief James Richardson Statement
Richardson approached slowly, pointed his firearm through the car window at him, his mood suddenly changed.
“I went to the driver’s side door and told him to open the door, he held up his hands, it was shaking like a leaf. I mean, poor girl, it was like an expression of utter terror when I opened the door. Richardson was terrified, as he told The Post.
In the Bodycam video footage, Richardson is seen putting his gun back in his holster and shows him bodycam footage of him saying “calm down, you’re okay”. Of course we had guns, guns pointed at him, so I tried to calm him down. She was shaking so much that she couldn’t take off her seat belt, and I helped her take it off, ”she recalled.
I did not perceive him as a threat, he had no gun. I checked his hands, he started crying. He reached out and hugged me and I hugged him a little, ”said the chief of police.
The department said that Curry was later detained and charged with escaping police, danger, and traffic violations.
“The explanation he told me was that he was in that area, he didn’t know what he was doing, and he was extremely upset. He had no criminal record to speak about, as far as I know he was never in trouble. He just made a really bad choice,” Richardson told The Post that he had been arrested.
