A man has been shot dead by police on London Bridge after several people were stabbed in what the Metropolitan Police have said is a “terror incident”.
Video shows a man, apparently the suspect, grappling with members of the public on the ground. As he tries to get up he appears to be hit by gunfire and collapses on the ground.
The police cordoned off the London bridge, in the center of the British capital, on Friday, due to an “incident” they are dealing with, after witnesses reported that shots have been heard.
A journalist from the BBC public network who was in the area reported that he saw a group of men involved in a fight, after which police officers arrived and firearms were discharged.
A man in a suit and jacket could be seen backing away from the man having taken a large knife. After at least two shots are heard, passengers can be heard screaming, with one shouting: “What the f***, they’ve killed him.”
This man was walking behind us on the other side of London Bridge when the attack began. He ran through traffic and jumped the central partition to tackle the attacker with several others. We ran away but looks like he disarmed him. Amazing bravery @BBCNews #londonbridge pic.twitter.com/XdWRZyLwVN

The London Metropolitan Police killed a man who stabbed several people on the central London Bridge on Friday. Several people are seriously injured, as reported by the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who has praised the “amazing heroism” of citizens who have intervened during the attack. Police have declared the attack an act of terrorism, although agents do not rule out any other reason, a spokesman for the Scotland Yard counter-terrorism unit explained.
The attack took place around 1:58 p.m. local time on the bridge of the British capital, when a man wearing a fake explosive belt has stabbed several pedestrians. The agents have closed the bridge, evacuated the surrounding area and neutralized the attacker in the same scene of the attack. The authorities have asked the public to send any information or images of the attack to the Police and to avoid the area throughout the afternoon.
Panic scenes have taken place around the bridge while buildings are being evacuated and the London Bridge subway station is closed . In the first images of the bridge a large white truck can be seen blocking several lanes next to vehicles and buses, although it is unknown if the image is related to the attack.
London lowered the level of terrorist alert recently
The London bridge was already the scene of another attack in June 2017 , also in the middle of the electoral campaign, in which eight people died in a run over and several stabbings. This same month, the United Kingdom has lowered its terrorism alert level from “severe” to “substantial” earlier this month, the lowest level since 2014.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has canceled his electoral acts to return to Downing Street and address the incident. On Twitter, he thanked the rapid action of the security forces: “They keep me informed about the incident on the London bridge and I want to thank the police and all emergency services for the immediate response,” he wrote. Also the leader of the Labor Party, Jeremy Corbyn, and Sadiq Khan has lamented the incident.
