Manny Caulk, the Fayette County school principal in Lexington, Kentucky, died at the age of 49, causing a flood of tribute.According to WKYT, the news came in a letter to families from Stephanie Spires, Chair of the Fayette County Board of Education. “Tonight, I am writing with a heavy heart to inform you of the death of our Inspector Emmanuel Caulk, who has been managing our area since 2015,” he wrote.

“We are grateful for Manny’s servant leadership and his passion for our two moral imperatives – to accelerate success for students who are not yet qualified and to challenge students who are already competent to achieve global competence,” said Spiers.

Caulk wrote on Twitter that he was “Chief Inspector of Fayette County Public Schools since 2015.” He was named 2018 Kentucky Inspector of the Year and Leader to Learn for 2017 Education Week.

His latest posts on Twitter shared the news about the selection of teachers of the year. He also wished that diseases would spread through the school system, “I hope everyone who is sick gets better and everyone who is good stays that way!”

According to WKYTKentucky.com, Caulk’s grandfather, a coal miner, moved to Kentucky in search of the “American dream”. The newspaper reported that many of his successes as inspectors include developing the strategic plan of the region, redesigning high schools, emphasizing volunteerism and increasing education in the community’s conversation.

“My senior leadership experiences have given me the opportunity to serve as a leader in Portland, Philadelphia, Baton Rouge and Chicago,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

“My scope of work required regional reform efforts focused on ensuring that all students have a path to success by applying a student-centered learning approach; transforming low performing, low completion high schools; turning around chronic and persistent underperforming primary schools; closing the gap of success and opportunities; implementing high quality, rigorous and robust curriculum and teaching models; and to apply research-based leadership and staff professional development designed to increase students’ outcomes and life choices with an emphasis on university and career readiness. ”

Manny Caulk Death & Cause

Death was unexpected. The cause of death was not disclosed. However, in 2015, Caulk underwent surgery “to remove a malignant tumor from the sinus cavity,” according to Kentucky.com. Still, it is unclear whether this condition caused his death.

Arrangements to honor his life and work are currently incomplete, but when finalized, the FCPS will be sent to our Family, ”Spiers wrote.


Representative Cherlynn Stevenson wrote on Twitter: “I was shocked and upset by the news that Inspector Manny Caulk had died. This morning I drink from an FCPS coffee cup in honor of her and her dedication to her work with children. “I sincerely send my condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult period.”

Lexington Public Library wrote: “This is Supt. Manny Caulk died yesterday. Manny was a great partner of the LPL and advocate for our children and families. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on through @FCPSKY. We sympathize with his family and everyone who loves him. ”

Caulk was previously an inspector in Portland, Maine and an assistant inspector in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He also worked in a school district and child correction in Louisiana. He also had a doctorate in law and a master’s degree in education, according to LinkedIn.
