Matt James Wiki – Matt James Bio
Matt James is the first black male lead in The Bachelor. The 28-year-old real estate broker and best friend of Tyler Cameron will come to increase the diversity of the show after her first black Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay, called on the show to tackle the franchise’s systemic racism (or she’s out). Matt James was originally going to be a suitor on the season of Clare Crawley’s The Bachelorette, but the coronavirus delayed production indefinitely. “When filming failed to proceed as planned, we were given time to meet Matt and we all agreed that he would be a perfect bachelor,” ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke said in a statement obtained Friday by The Hollywood Reporter. “We know that we have a responsibility to ensure that the love stories we see on screen are representative of the world we live in and we are proudly serving our audience. This is just the beginning and we will continue to take action on issues of diversity in this franchise. We feel very privileged to have Matt as our first Black Bachelor and we are looking forward to embarking on this journey with him. ”

Matt James Career
“The Bachelor” is one of the largest franchises in television history. It has also faced enormous criticism over the years for its lack of diversity. After much rejection for never having a color edge on the franchise’s flagship show, “The Bachelor” will finally have its first black lead with star Matt James.
James is known to the Bachelor Nation for his friendship with fan-favorite alum Tyler Cameron, who competed in Hannah Brown’s season of “The Bachelorette.” James was initially cast to be a suitor in the upcoming season of “The Bachelorette” with Clare Crawley, which was supposed to start airing last May, but when production of “Bachelorette” was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, ABC he began to think of a bigger role for James. Last weekend, a former “single” Rachel Lindsay, the first black female lead in the entire franchise in her nearly two decades on the air, said she would cut ties to the ABC reality show if a black bachelor was not aired. “The Bachelor” debuted in 2002, has numerous spinoffs, and is one of the most highly rated and sustainable franchises on television. Through 24 seasons of “The Bachelor” and 15 seasons of “The Bachelorette”, Lindsay has been the only black star.
James has already built up a huge fan base among the reality show audience because he is friends with Cameron, who was a finalist in Brown’s season of “The Bachelorette.” Before his announcement as the next “Bachelor” on “Good Morning America” on Friday, James had nearly 190,000 Instagram followers, and was on the fan wish list for a possible black star for the upcoming season.
