A source said it appeared the blind had got stuck as he tried to lower it after getting out of bed because the light coming through his window was stopping him from sleeping.
A local newspaper said he had slept shortly before the tragedy after dining out with his host family. The apartment is located in a street called Calle Periodista Quesada Chacon.

In a statement, local education chief Inmaculada Troncoso said: ‘We deeply regret what has happened. We are offering support to the school where the boy was as well as his family.’
Video footage taken after the tragedy showed the police and ambulance response.
Local police placed a security cordon around the apartment block where the boy fell to his death shortly after the incident happened.
