Virginia authorities are looking for a marine who left his position in North Carolina last month and has since been named as a person of interest in the death of his mother’s boyfriend.

Authorities say Michael Brown is a combat engineer who left his post in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, around October 19 and was later seen in Franklin County, Virginia, 300 miles away.

Officers received a call shortly before noon on Saturday reporting a fatal shooting in block 200 of Woodthrush Circle in Hardy. Upon arrival, the responding agents found Rodney Brown killed by a gunshot wound. There is no news at this time about a possible motive behind the shooting of the man.

According to law enforcement officials, Michael Brown is considered to be armed and dangerous. He is believed to be carrying a high-powered rifle and may have access to other weapons, reported WSET.

It is not known where Michael Brown has stayed during the last three weeks, but it is known that the marine lives in the forest and frequents national parks and forests. The Craven County Sheriff’s Office says that Michael can now be back in North Carolina since his last known address was in New Bern, 50 miles north of Camp Lejeune.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia originally believed the suspect was driving a 1976 white Cadillac without registered plates. However, new information suggests that you might be driving a 2008 black Lincoln Town Car with a North Carolina EHP-4877 record. Michael Brown is 6 feet tall and weighs 145 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Authorities say that anyone who meets the wanted man should act with ‘extreme caution’ and call 911 or the Craven County Sheriff’s Office at 252-633-2357.
