Gargiulo was arrested by the Santa Monica Police Department on June 6, 2008. On July 7, 2011, the Cook County State Attorney accused Gargiulo of the first-degree murder of Tricia Pacaccio. Although Gargiulo is accused of the two murders in California and the murder of Pacaccio in Chicago, the police have not linked him to any other murder. Gargiulo allegedly told the Los Angeles county jail authorities that just because 10 women were killed, and his DNA was present, does not mean he killed anyone, leading investigators to believe there are more victims. The media in Los Angeles called Gargiulo the “Hollywood Ripper,” as well as the “Chiller Killer.” Gargiulo is being held at the Los Angeles County jail awaiting trial for capital murder. On June 9, 2017, a pretrial hearing was held at the Los Angeles Superior Court, and his trial would begin in October 2017. After the delays, his trial began on May 2, 2019. In May 2019, Actor Ashton Kutcher testified about the crimes On August 15, 2019, Gargiulo was convicted of all charges. The penalty phase of his trial is scheduled to begin on October 7, 2019. He faces a death sentence or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Once his sentence is over, he will be extradited back to Illinois to face the first-degree murder charge related to Tricia Pacaccio. If you are convicted in Illinois, you will face a 25-year life sentence. On October 18, 2019, a jury recommended the death penalty for Michael Gargiulo after several hours of deliberation.
