Officials said on Monday they had identified Moussa Fofana, a high school student who was killed and injured in a shooting at a New Jersey school’s sports field. Moussa was fatally shot at around 9:40 PM at Underhill Field in Maplewood. Sunday, according to the Essex County Attorney’s Office.

Moussa Fofana killed in shooting at New Jersey school
Acting Essex County Prosecutor II. Theodore N. Stephens and Maplewood Police Chief Jim Duval issued a press release today confirming the identity of Fofana and stating that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating.
“At about 21:38. On Sunday, June 6, Maplewood police officers were dispatched to the Underhill Field area of Garfield Place, following a report of a shooting. Officers who arrived identified a man with a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 18-year-old Moussa Fofana from Maplewood, died at the scene at 10:24 PM. A second male victim was treated at a local hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.”
According to TapInto, Inspector Dr. “This incredible disaster is undoubtedly a devastating blow to our students, staff and society,” Ronald Taylor wrote in a letter to parents.

A soccer teammate named Frederik Hoffman is coordinating a GoFundMe that has already raised more than $30,000, although CHS Principal Sanchez reports that the school district is seeking permission from Fofana’s family to coordinate an official school community fundraiser. Hoffman wrote on GoFundMe: “I’m collecting donations for Moussa Fofana’s family so they can recover from their tragic loss and pay for the funeral or any other burden that comes with this tragedy. For Columbia we played football together and played pickup games under the hill this young man was brilliant and He had great aspirations to become a professional football player, the community and I are lost for words. I am in contact with Moussa’s family and close friends and I will ensure that the money is given directly to them. Please donate everything you can, because every dollar will help Moussa’s family. All The money will go directly to the Fofana family. Long live Moses.”
