Block Party Shooting
CMPD said it all started at 12:30, when MEDIC responded to reports by someone hit by a car on Beatties Ford Road near Catherine Simmons Avenue and a car on Lasalle Street. Shots were made as soon as they arrived. Soon after, officers found 29-year-old Kelly Miller in the middle of the road with a gunshot wound. It was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hundreds of people and cars were on the street, and officials called it a “very, very chaotic” scene. The officers said they had to pull people on the back of the firefighters to respond to those who needed medical attention.
In a cell phone video sent to Channel 9, cars could be seen making donuts and fireworks were shot. At some point, someone hit the car and the video shows that an ambulance is coming. Soon after, you may hear a few gunshots, people fleeing irregularly and hiding in their cars. Officials said they were included in several shooters and fired more than 100 rounds into the crowd, but at this point there were no clues on suspects or a possible cause.
CMPD said there were around 400 people in area at the time of the shooting and no one has come forward.
