A correctional officer at the Plainfield Correctional Facility has been arrested and charged with sexual misconduct and official misconduct for allegedly having sex with an inmate.

According to a report from the Indiana Department of Corrections, a court order was handed out to Leah Myers on November 27 and made his first appearance at the Hendricks Circuit Court on Monday. Myers, a correctional officer, is accused of sexual misconduct and official misconduct, both serious crimes, arising from alleged sexual encounters with a prisoner in prison in October.

“I and the facility appreciate the hard work put in by the Office of Investigation and Intelligence,” Warden Stanley Knight said in a statement. “The Indiana Department of Correction has an absolute zero tolerance regarding this type of behavior. Inappropriate conduct puts all staff members and offenders safety in jeopardy. Any person, staff, visitor, contract employee found to have inappropriate contact with the offender population will be arrested and charged.”

In a sworn statement of probable cause, two other Correction Department employees told an investigator that they were on a three-way phone call when Myers allegedly revealed to the group that he had sex with an inmate in the central dormitory. The inmate also revealed during an interview with the investigator that there was sexual contact with Myers. During his interview with investigators, Myers said the information was not true and denied having had sexual contact with the inmate.
