“Even after seeing shocking and terrifying scenes for days from the siege in the US Capital, DC Metropolitan Police Officer Hodges’s brutal beating is featured by the perpetrator’s blatant disregard for human life,” said assistant Steven M. The FBI will ceaselessly pursue those involved in this activity, and we will continue our unwavering commitment to ensure that all those responsible for attacks on law enforcement agencies are brought to justice.”
As claimed in the charging documents, a video posted on YouTube on January 6, 2021 captured a large group of rebels trying to cross the uniformed law enforcement line serving to prevent the rebels from entering the western terrace door. US Capital. On the front line of the rebels, a person who was later identified as McCaughey can be seen using an open police riot shield to physically press the left side of a policeman’s body. The officer was sandwiched between the open police riot shield held by McCaughey and the lower terrace door to the west. The officer seemed to be crying loudly in pain. While he was pinned to the door by Officer McCaughey, he violently removed the gas mask of a separate rebel officer, exposing the officer’s bloody mouth. While McCaughey used the riot shield to push the police officer, many other rebels behind and around McCaughey were seen to increase the weight against the officer.

The case is being prosecuted by US Deputy Attorney General Melissa Jackson and Jocelyn Bond of the District of Columbia US Attorney’s Office and Trial Attorney Rebecca Magnone from the Department of Homeland Security. Valuable assistance was provided by the US Attorney General for the Southern District of New York. The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Washington Field Office with the help of the FBI’s New Haven and New York Field Offices, the US Capital Police Department, and the Metropolitan Police Department.
