Renee Padilla Died while trying to save his 11-year-old daughter. Renee Padilla, 35, of Illinois, had jumped into Lake Michigan and was underwater for about four minutes during the attempted rescue Thursday, according to WGN 9.

When Padilla’s daughter walked out onto the break wall near 31st Street Beach and was knocked into the water by a high wave, according to WTKR. who had been swept off a cement break wall by a high wave and into Lake Michigan on Thursday

Padilla’s boss, Roberto Spagnolo, told ABC 7 that Padilla had asked for a rare day off from work that day so that he could take his two daughters to the beach before school started.
‘She fell in and he jumped in after her and the girls told me right now, “We watched him drown,”‘ Spagnolo said, adding that it didn’t matter who had fallen into the lake, ‘He would have been there. That’s just how he is.’
The beach warning is in effect until Saturday 4 am in Cook and Lake counties in Illinois and Lake and Porter counties in Indiana. Dangerous rip currents and up to six-feet-high waves have been forecast.
Renee Padilla Daughter Condition Now
Witnesses said several lifeguards rushed in and pulled the man and the girl out. WLS-TVidentified the man as Renee Padilla.
The girl was rescued and now in stabilized and is said to be in good condition.
After lifeguards administered CPR, Padilla and the girl were taken in an ambulance to Mercy Hospital. Padilla was taken in “extremely critical” condition and died a short time later, WGN reports.
Earlier in the day, a Beach Hazard Statement was issued for the Lake Michigan shoreline, warning that 3-to-6-foot waves and dangerous currents were expected.
“High wave action and dangerous swimming conditions will exist along the Lake Michigan beaches in Lake and Cook Counties in Illinois and Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana into Friday,” according to the WGN weather department
National Weather Service High Alert
The National Weather Service Chicago tweeted a beach hazard statement for the Lake Michigan shoreline, warning that ‘Dangerous/life-threatening swimming conditions’ would be present at Lake Michigan beaches throughout the day and that waves would be between three to six feet high.
