Rozene Cohran is best known as the wife of Charley Pride, an American singer, musician, guitarist, business owner, and professional baseball player. The legendary baritone singer broke barriers as the first Black country superstar and the first Black member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Pride reportedly died on December 12, 2020 in Dallas, Texas, due to COVID-19 complications. He was 86 years old.

Marriage and Children

Pride met his wife Rozene while playing baseball in Memphis. They married in 1956 while Pride was on Christmas leave from Army basic education and had two sons, Kraig and Dion, and a daughter, Angela. They lived in Dallas, Texas.


Kraig now uses the name Carlton and somehow followed in his father’s footsteps as a performance artist. His band Carlton Pride and Zion started in San Marcos, Texas in 1995 and they perform a variety of reggae, funk and soul music in the United States.

Charley Pride Death & Cause

Charley Pride died on Saturday, December 12, due to complications caused by COVID-19, according to a statement by journalist Jeremy Westby. He was 86 years old. While it is unclear whether Pride’s COVID-19 contract is linked to the CMA Awards, the Country Music Association was under fire at the time as it continued in a live, face-to-face, mostly unmasked ceremony in an indoor venue in Nashville. During a week of coronavirus surge in Music City Center, Tennessee (the state reported the highest single-day increase four days ago with 5,071 new cases).

His pride wife, Ebby Rozene Cohran Pride, had four siblings, three children, five grandchildren and two grandchildren. Instead of flowers, the Pride family, Jesuit College Preparatory School, St. Philips School and Community Center seeks donations to the Honors Scholarship at the Food Bank or other charity of their choosing. Hearing the news of the death of the leading country artist, fans and friends took to social media to mourn and pay tribute.
