Ryan Scott Blinston, 37, from Oroville, is charged with three murders and two attempted murders over allegations of the serial massacre last May and June at the Butte County Supreme Court, according to district prosecutors in Butte and Tehama counties.

Ryan Scott Blinston Arrest & Charge

Arrested in June for attempting murder for allegedly severing the throat of a Bear Creek man, Blinston was working for a logging service on May 18, and days later he returned to clients’ Los Molinos home and killed 88-year-old Loreen Severs. Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey and Tehama County District Attorney Matt Rogers said.

Evidence showed that Blinston broke into Severs’ home and tried to kill her 91-year-old husband Homer.

“They both had their throats cut,” the statement said, adding that Homer Severs survived but died of an unrelated illness in December.

Prosecutors say Blinston was killed again on June 4 while working as a tree trimmer at the home of 82-year-old Sandra George in Oroville.

“After the job was completed and the crew left, Blinston returned to George’s home and killed him,” prosecutors said in a statement. “His throat was cut inside his house, as in the Severs.”

Two days later, Blinston allegedly killed an acquaintance Vicky Cline, who was last seen alive with him in downtown Oroville.

The 57-year-old woman’s car was destroyed in an arson fire, which prosecutors said Blinston had done, based on blood and DNA evidence found inside the burning car.

Cline’s body was later found by fishermen in the Feather River near Belden on 21 June.

“The damage to his throat was consistent with the other victims,” prosecutors said.

Authorities told Blinston that a SWAT team seeking to issue an arrest warrant in the arson case found him in an isolated trailer in Brush Creek on June 14.

Prosecutors said the officers later heard “hoarse screams” from inside the house where Blinston tried to block his way using an ax.

“The trailer resident later told officers that he was sleeping in his bed when Blinston suddenly attacked him and cut his throat,” he continued.

Prosecutors said the 50-year-old victim survived.

Blinston tried to flee into the woods, but was quickly arrested and later charged with attempted murder. Ramsey and Rogers said they had been jailed on this charge since June.

Blinston claimed he was not guilty of attempted murder in this case, the Associated Press reported.

Prosecutors said Blinston, who is to be put on trial Thursday afternoon on the new charges, faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole if convicted. Authorities did not provide a possible reason for the murders.
