Samuel Little, the country’s most prolific serial killer, who has confessed to more than 90 murders, is dead. He was 80 years old.
Samuel Little Background
In interviews with Texas Ranger James Holland for weeks, Little revealed details about the murders and presented confirming evidence. He also painted portraits of more than 30 victims, describing where he met them, what they were wearing, how he killed them and where he hid their bodies.
He told the investigators that he drowned them all. His first murder took place in 1970, and the last in 2005. The crimes were committed in 19 states, and most of their victims were in California and Florida.
The FBI described Little as “the most prolific serial killer in US history” last year, and its analysts believe all of his admissions are convincing, although some of the deaths were initially designated as accidents or overdoses. Some victims were never found.
He was a former boxer, and investigators said they believed he knocked his victims down with a punch before strangling him while masturbating. The victims were mostly prostitutes, drug addicts, and women living on the margins of society. At least one of them was transgender.
She had been in and out of prison before she was caught for the murders. California officials said he was sentenced to four years in prison for assault with a deadly weapon in the mid-1980s and detained in 2012 for possessing a controlled substance.
DNA samples taken while in custody linked him to three unsolved murder cases from the 1980s. In 2014, he was sentenced to three life sentences without parole.
The FBI posted some of Little’s confessions in their own words on YouTube. In 1984, he said he met a 25-year-old “hippie” looking woman who wanted to go from Cincinnati to Miami in front of a strip club.
I saw a short frog climbing up the hill and there was vegetation on the hill – there was no house or nothing, “he admitted in the video.” And I pulled up there and hid the car in that little vegetation. There.”
He said in a 2018 interview with The Cut, a web-based subsidiary of New York magazine, that killing his victims “felt like heaven”.
