Scott Hapgood Charged
The Connecticut banker accused of involuntary manslaughter for the death of an employee of a hotel in Anguilla has refused to fly back to the island for his most recent court appearance, claiming he will never have a fair trial, can be jailed to his arrival and he is receiving death threats. However, prosecutors on the island filed charges. The case has outraged local residents who now ask for an example of Hapgood.

On Monday, his lawyer attended a hearing during which a judge will decide whether or not the case should proceed to a jury trial. Hapgood himself did not. His spokesman told DailyMail.com that he could not, given the circumstances, for fear of being attacked or imprisoned. “There is a significant probability that Scott’s imprisonment will be indefinite, since a trial may not occur for many years. Secondly, there is almost certain that the death threats he has received will be realized if he is held in an Anguillan prison for a prolonged period of time. “For these reasons, Scott has not returned to Anguilla,” he said. He declined to say if the banker would ever agree to return, saying only: “We only focus on this particular audience at this time, so we have no comments on whether he will return in the future.”
