Harris lost several of his family members during his life. In July 1993, Harris was called on a WWF tour after a show in Oakland, California, where his youngest sister and stepdaughter was shot dead. The killer attempted suicide, but was only seriously disfigured. Harris pressed for the man to be arrested and sentenced after the WWF aired in August. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and died in 2013.
In 1998, Harris’ mother Betsey Lee Mosley died. His father, a furniture store, was killed while playing a dice game when Harris was 4 years old. The former wrestler was again heartbroken when his son died of AIDS in 2005 at the age of 35.
