Siphiwe Mabuza is best known as the wife of Jabu Mabuza, a South African businessman and investor. She was the chairman of the eskom board of directors. In January 2018, she was appointed head of Eskom. She reportedly died of Covid-19 on June 16, 2021, aged 63.

Jabu Mabuza Background

Jabulane Mabuza was born in February 1958 in the South African town of Waterval Boven. His family was later forcibly relocated to trust land in White River and lived with his two grandmothers as an alternative to Mabuza. She later went to live with an aunt in Daveyton. While in middle school, Mabuza was expelled for getting caught up in the 1976 student protests in Soweto.

Mabuza studied law at Northern University, but she dropped out in 1982, according to her resume. She became a taxi driver to pay her tuition fee, but later she decided to become a taxi owner. The taxi business led to him being the co-founder of Fabcos in 1988, along with James Ngcoya, who was then president of the SA Black Taxi Association.

Jabu Mabuza Career

In 1980, he became clerk of the court in what was then called the Department of Bantu Affairs. While at Daveyton he started working as a taxi driver for tuition funds and later became a taxi owner. He also helped found the African Business and Consumer Services Foundation in the late 1980s and became CEO of the organization in 1990.

Mabuza was the group CEO of Tsogo Sun Holdings. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Mabuza as the new head of Eskom, a state-owned power company, on 20 January 2018.
On July 29, 2019, Jabu Mabuza was appointed Acting CEO of ESKOM, replacing Phakamani Hadebe at the struggling State Energy enterprise.
