There, LSU Management noticed Steve’s mastery of mentoring and training, and was eventually appointed Assistant Director of Athletic. Steve felt called to serve the people of East Baton Rouge in a more meaningful way later in his life; As the 68 State Representative for the House District.

Elected in 2007, Steve spent the next 12 years developing innovative solutions to the challenges faced by those living in District 68 and the state of Louisiana. Steve served as Head of the Capital Territory Legislative Delegation, Vice President of the Transportation Committee, and Chair of the Education Committee in the House of Representatives. As a leading voice in education and infrastructure, Steve has achieved various reforms improving transport infrastructure in the state and access to early childhood education programs for Louisiana’s children.

Carter was hospitalized for the coronavirus in early January 2021. The news of his death came late Tuesday, January 26th. The family is expected to make an official statement later in the night.

Governor John Bel Edwards offered his condolences to the family of former president Steve Carter.

“I am very sorry to learn that Former Representative Steve Carter lost his battle with COVID-19 tonight. Steve served the Baton Rouge community in the Louisiana Legislature for 12 years, and I was honored to serve him during that time, ”said Edwards. “I hope you will join Donna and me as we pray for their family, including her husband Gloria, her children Amelia and Solomon, and their four grandchildren, Yvie, Carter, Julia and Addie, during this very difficult time.”
