A father who called the triple-0 to tell the police that his wife and three young children died in their family home, looked ‘extremely distressed’ in the front yard waiting for paramedics to arrive.
Emergency teams were called to the house on Burgess Street in Tullamarine, northwest of Melbourne, at 12:30 on Thursday.
There they found the bodies of 43-year-old Katie Perinovic and three children – Claire, seven, Anna, five, and Matthew, three.
The boys’ father, 48-year-old Tomislav Perinovic, is a ‘person of interest’ and helps police in investigations. There will be an official interview yet.
According to The Herald Sun, it was found by paramedics sitting in the front yard of the house.

Ms. Perinovic worked as a physiotherapist for several years at nearby Glenroy Physiotherapy, but left her job unexpectedly about three months ago.
A mother of three may have been in a state of depression.
Acting Commissioner Robert Hill said that while the investigation was still in its early stages, the women and their children had ‘died under suspicious circumstances’.
‘As for who was responsible for the deaths of the four people who have not yet been determined, and we should not draw any conclusions at this point,’ he said.
He said it would be “largely unfair” to assume that the father was guilty on the basis of helping the police.
“We just need to understand the facts and unfortunately they are unknown to us, but time will be running out,” he said.
“We have a long way to go before we can truly understand and appreciate what happened.”
When the emergency service team arrived at the scene, it appears that the father looked ‘extremely distressed’ on the street.
Found Dead & Investigation
Dep Comm Hill, who refused to comment on the nature of the family’s injuries, said investigators did not believe there were other parties involved in this phase.
He said the police did not expect to file charges tonight, but could not rule out the possibility.
The police said there were no risks to the community and no history of domestic violence in which the family was involved.
The homicide detectives set up a crime scene on the property, and the police confirmed they were investigating many different scenarios, including murder-suicide.
They were shocked by the deaths that shook the place they described as a quiet area.
Neighbor Marie Groves said Perinovic is a devoted mother whose children often come to her home for play dates.
She told the Australian, ‘She was a well-known, beautiful and very tall woman, she was very beautiful and always had a smile on her face (and she was always chatting with everyone) whenever she passed her.
Tara Jenkins, who lives in the corner of the family, said that with the ‘devastating’ turn of events ‘absolutely cut inside’.
These children were very small, just beautiful little children. “[Their mother] was always alone with them and she was a very loving mother,” she told The Age.

A neighbor living in the next building said he heard the confusion of the emergency teams but was advised to stay inside. John Constantino, who also lives nearby, said he spoke to a woman who lived in the house on Wednesday night.
She described her as a ‘lovely lady’ who was ‘kind’ and ‘really friendly’.
Another neighbor named Johnie said that the police helicopter was waiting for an hour over his house on Thursday.
“A little too much for a local neighborhood like this,” she said.
Officers remain at the scene as they begin their investigation.
A police statement read, “A man helps the police with their investigation.”
A crime scene has been created and detectives from the Homicide Squad are joining. The exact circumstances of the incident are being investigated and we will provide more information as appropriate.
There is currently no ongoing threat to the community.
Aerial footage captured Thursday afternoon shows a heavy police presence outside a house.
The street was closed to the public.
A local person phoned 3AW to report the police presence on Burgess Street around 1:00 pm.
“I’m guessing about ten police cars now,” he said.
Ambulance teams were also seen at the scene.
