A man has been jailed for ten and a half years for a violent robbery on a jewellery shop. Victor Okumu, 38, from Lazenby, left a female staff member at Bradley’s in Northallerton needing surgery for a hand injury in the raid last March. He escaped with £440,000 worth of goods.

An armed robber who should’ve been deported ten years ago for robbing a woman at gunpoint in her own home has carried out a £442,000 jewellery shop raid in 2009.
But Okumu remained in the country following his release in March 2014 and was even provided accommodation by the Home Office.
Five years later Okumu pulled off a raid on Bradley’s jewellery store in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, in March.
He stormed the shop wearing a crash helmet and blue boiler suit and hurdled the counter, forcing terrified staff to hand over £441,640 in jewellery – only half of which has been recovered.
Victor Okumu may have been carrying a knife as a female shop worker suffered a severely cut hand that required surgery, York Crown Court was told.

After the jury found Okumu guilty on both charges, Judge David Mole sentenced him to 13 years.
He said: “I am sending you to prison for 13 years for robbery and possession of a firearm but I am also recommending you for deportation.It came to light during this case that you are here illegally and your status here is now in the hands of the secretary of state
