Vili Fualaau is the husband of Mary Kay Letourneau, the former Seattle-area schoolteacher who was at the center of a national scandal in the 1990s when she was convicted of raping her sixth-grade student whom she later married, has died, her attorney confirmed to KOMO News Tuesday night.

In the case that made international headlines, the child was charged with rape, and later found guilty of a defense agreement, which he had promised no contact with Fualaau. But again, she was caught having sex with her in a car and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
After Letourneau was released from prison in 2004, Fualaau asked the court to withdraw the contactless order, and the two were married in 2005. Fualaau had two daughters in May 2017 before filing documents that would legally leave Letourneau.
In 2014, when Letourneau did not appear in court due to a suspended driver’s license, he carried out another study by law in King County.
At that time, prosecutors found that Letourneau was withdrawn for expired tabs a year ago and had a suspended license for free traffic tickets. He was ordered to enter a state renewal program that required repayment of fines and to assist them in recovering their license and avoiding criminal charges.
