The family attends Oliver Presbyterian Church, where Brenda was the chair of the Christian Community Action Committee and a member of the Women of the Church. The Statler Brothers, an American country, gospel, and vocal music group, were established in 1955 and began performing locally. Harold and three childhood friends, Lew DeWitt, Phil Balsley, and Joe McDorman founded the Four Star Quartet in 1948. The group, later known as Kingsmen, sang mostly gospel music. McDorman resigned and was replaced by Don Reid, Harold’s younger brother. Later, in 1964, the group became an endorsement for Johnny Cash and sang as an endorsement for the country’s icon until 1972. Some of their greatest hits included “Flowers on the Wall” from 1965 and “Bed of Rose” from 1970.
