Police Released Camera Video
Metro police have released more information, video from the body camera and video from the LVMPD Air Unit of the shooting involving the officer since April 21. In a videotaped briefing session released Friday, Sheriff’s Deputy Brett Zimmerman provided additional details of the incident that occurred at 455 E. Twain Avenue, near Twain and Paradise.
Chase Rosa Involved in Shooting
He said that at approximately 1:55 p.m. A Metro officer in plain clothes tried to start a vehicle stop on a white Acura to drive at extreme speeds. Metro police said the officers were dressed in civilian clothes and had an unmarked vehicle because they were guarding the area.
The vehicle driven by the suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Chase Rosa, was not stopped by the officer. A record check revealed that the plaque had been reported stolen, so the LVMPD Air Unit was able to track the vehicle while recklessly driving through four area commands to include the city of Henderson. At one point the vehicle accelerated to 120 mph while on the highway. Rosa then left two women at a service station. Officers detained the women who told them that Rosa was driving with a shotgun on her lap.
At approximately 3 p.m., Rosa stopped his vehicle at 455 E. Twain Avenue and exited his car holding a shotgun. Rosa walked towards another vehicle and pointed the shotgun at the occupant in an apparent attempt to steal the vehicle.
Chase Rosa Dead or Alive?
Officers Tomaino and Kempf stopped behind Rosa’s car and exited the police vehicle unmarked. Officer Tomaino identified himself by yelling at the Metro police and ordering Rosa to drop the gun. However, Rosa turned to the officers as she pointed the shotgun at them. Both officers shot Rosa, hitting him several times. Rosa was transported to Sunrise Trauma where she died.
This is the 5th officer-involved shooting of 2020 for Metro Police. The LVMPD Force Investigation Team is conducting the investigation into the officer’s use of force in this incident.
