Jerry Bishop, born Gerald Blume, was an American journalist. He was an announcer of “Judge Judy” from the beginning of the syndicated show in the room. He died on April 21, 2020 at the age of 84, from heart disease. Jerry Bishop has hosted “Judge Judy” since its first season in 1994, and his career spanned thousands of episodes. Bishop was also a veteran of Los Angeles radio and his voice was loved and recognized on the morning trip for three decades, from the 1960s to the 1970s. Jerry interviewed tons of celebrities on the radio, including Frank Sinatra, Steve McQueen, and Natalie Wood.

Jerry also lent his famous voice to commercials and did some voiceover work, including 15 years as the voice of the Disney Channel. Bishop was the presenter of the show until its last days, covering thousands of episodes of the daytime slot that is scheduled for next year. Bishop had a long career in radio and voice work before joining Judge Judy, starting at WDRC Hartford, CT. He later worked at WRKO Boston before moving to San Diego and eventually Los Angeles. In 1965, he began a long career on Los Angeles radio, starting at KLAC and including stops at KFI, KKDJ, KIIS, and KGIL. He also had a season at KFMB in San Diego. In his Los Angeles Radio People book, Don Barrett quotes a quote Bishop gave to the Los Angeles Times in the mid-1970s: “I’m not flashy on air, and people tell me that I despise myself.” said the DJ. “But I don’t think everything you say or do is fantastic … the best thing that has happened.”

During and after his days on the radio, Bishop also branched out into voiceovers, doing commercials for major brands like Budweiser and Burger King and voicing promotions for NBC and ABC. He also had a 15-year career as the “voice” of the Disney Channel. He was also the camera presenter for The $ 10,000 Pyramid for a time in the 1980s.

Jerry Bishop Death & Cause

Jerry died on April 21, 2020, of heart disease. Judy Sheindlin said in a statement; “Jerry Bishop has been the voice of our program for 24 years. Everyone loved him. He had a golden heart and a generous spirit. I adored him and I will miss him. ” Jerry’s agent, Arlene Thornton, paid tribute in a statement saying: “Jerry was much more than a customer, he was a friend and the best friend anyone could have. He was a prince and a mensch, but he was truly familiar. ”
