John Teerlinck is a Former defensive line coach shaped Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis into one of the most devastating duos of all time, has died at the age of 69, Colts owner Jim Irsay announced.

Indianapolis was the last of Teerlinck’s six stops in the NFL, and in every place, he left great pass rushers.

John Teerlinck, who played two NFL seasons in the 1970s, coached for the Cleveland Browns from 1989-1990, the Los Angeles Rams in 1991, the Minnesota Vikings from 1992-1994, the Detroit Lions from 1995-1996 and the Denver Broncos. from 1997-2001 before landing in Indianapolis. During his two seasons with the Lions in 1995-96, Teerlinck had the highest career sack total of two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Henry Thomas, as well as defensive end Tracy Scroggins. Teerlinck also helped develop a young Robert Porcher, who had his first double-digit sack season under the coach. In all those years in the NFL, Teerlinck won three Super Bowl rings, two with Denver, one with the Colts, coached 31 Pro Bowlers, and taught seven men (Freeney, Mathis, Bubba Baker, Kevin Greene, Chris Doleman, John Randle and Neil Smith) who ended their careers with over 100 sacks.
