Kerry Buckner is a homicide lieutenant in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) who has been identified as the officer who shot Sean Reed ‘DaDon’, a 21-year-old graduate of Lawrence North High School who spent a year in the Air Force, dividing their time between Texas and Indianapolis.
The circumstances of the police chase and the shooting are still unclear. According to one of the local media, an IMPD public information officer confirmed that there was a shooting involving the police, but no officers were shot during the incident. It happened around 6:20 p.m. near the intersection of West 62nd Street and North Michigan Road. Buckner has worked at the IMPD for nearly three decades rising from the rank of detective sergeant to homicide lieutenant. He has been a homicide lieutenant from October 2017 to date. He began working as an Assistant Commander of the Bomb Squad in May 1994. He describes his role in the role as “HDS Class B-4-95, Hazardous Devices Technician and current Assistant Commander of the IMPD Bomb Squad. Before the 2007 Sheriff and Police merger, I was the Assistant Commander of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department Fire Squad. ” He joined the IMPD as a detective sergeant in 1991. Prior to that, he was supervisor of the Violent Crimes Unit of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. He writes on his Linkedln that he served as a military police officer from January 1987 to March 2007.

Kerry Buckner has been identified as the officer who shot and killed Sean Reed “DaDon,” a 21-year-old graduate of Lawrence North High School who spent a year in the Air Force, dividing his time between Texas and Indianapolis. Police said it started after two officers, including IMPD chief Randal Taylor, who was driving north on I-65 saw a vehicle he was driving recklessly and chased him.
