Dr. Lorna died on Sunday, April 26, according to a statement from her father. “She tried to do her job, and it killed her,” Dr. Philip Breen told the New York Times about his medical daughter, Lorna Breen, who had been the medical director of NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital in the midst of the pandemic. There is no indication in the report that Dr. Lorna’s suicide had anything to do with contracting the coronavirus, as the initial report suggests that the disease was not fatal at the time of her death. Dr. Lawrence A. Melniker, vice president of quality care at the hospital where Dr. Breen worked, told the New York Times that Dr. Breen was a “respected and loved doctor.”
