He began his professional career as a radio journalist, crossing the television news while working in Birmingham. Mike attended Louisiana State University and the Career Academy School of Broadcast Journalism. He was a member of the Wisconsin Black Media Association.

Mike was also involved with the Milwaukee “Black Excellence Awards” for over a decade. The annual award ceremony began and produced the video presentation of the past few years. Mike retired from WISN 12 News in 2017. He liked going back to television to share fun Milwaukee events like Summerfest and the Wisconsin State Fair.

Anderson worked for 36 years on the popular Milwaukee area television station, serving as a reporter and newscaster. Anderson retired in 2017. Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes offered his condolences online this morning. “Mike became a mentor to me. I can’t even count how many times he was available to give advice or just talk when I saw him on the Y. This is an incredibly difficult loss,” Barnes wrote.

Fellow journalist Ben Wagner mourned the loss of his friend in the business. ” Mike was such a light in our newsroom and in this community. He was so welcoming to me and other new journalists. I feel blessed to have known him. Rest easy, Mike,” he wrote

According to Anderson’s bio on WISN 12, before coming to the station, “Mike worked as a news anchor and reporter at KIRO-TV in Seattle. He began his professional career as a radio journalist, crossing into television news, while working in Birmingham, Ala. Mike attended Louisiana State University and the Career Academy School of Broadcast Journalism.”
