Paul Jablonski Wiki – Paul Jablonski Bio

Paul Jablonski, the CEO of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, died Sunday, agency officials announced. He was 67.

Jablonski, who had a 40-year career in transit, joined MTS in 2004. Before coming to San Diego, he spent 10 years leading the regional transit authority in Cincinnati, Ohio, according to his LinkedIn profile. “We are shocked and saddened by Paul’s passing,” MTS Board President Nathan Fletcher said in a statement. “He was a good man who not only ran a large agency but was a respected national leader in the transit industry. The entire MTS family is grieving right now, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Paul’s family. ”

Sharon Cooney, the deputy executive director, will serve as acting executive director, the agency said. Former San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts sat on the MTS board of elected officials for three decades. He said that Jablonski was like a family to him. “It was a family,” said Roberts. “I just want to sit down and cry a little more. What a nice guy. Roberts said he called Jablonski’s wife on Sunday morning to express his condolences. “I knew everything they were planning for years to come,” he said. “You know it hurts. It’s a total shock. ” Roberts was on the committee that hired Jablonski and worked with the MTS chief for more than a decade. The two remained in contact even after Roberts ended his political career in late 2018. “I was very impressed with him from the first interview,” he said. “You may not know it, but Paul started out as a bus driver. He knew the business from top to bottom and bottom to top. It was an exceptional find. He used his resources incredibly effectively. It is a great transit agency and has an incredibly strong reputation across the country. ” In particular, the couple, along with then-head of the San Diego Association of Governments Gary Gallegos, helped close the deal that secured approximately $ 1 billion in federal money to help build the Mid-Coast Trolley extension. The new section of the Blue Line trolley, which runs from downtown to University City, is still on track to open next year, according to traffic officials. How many times have you seen us get $ 1 billion in something in San Diego? Roberts asked. “I don’t think it has ever happened. The boy acted and delivered, and he could see the future.”

In 2014, Jablonski was recognized as the Manager of the Year by the American Public Transportation Association, and in 2017, MTS bus operators won a pedestrian safety award from the same organization. Jablonski began his career in public transportation as a bus driver on the Amherst campus of the University of Massachusetts because he needed a job. He went on to work as a radio dispatcher and highway supervisor.
