Samuel Gooch is Brother of Luke AFB airman Authorities have arrested and charged in the death of a Sunday school teacher (Sasha Krause) whose body was recovered from the Flagstaff area a few weeks ago.
Samuel Gooch Arrested
On April 21, detectives arrested Mark Gooch in connection with the murder. Gooch had been an aviator stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale. Detectives said Gooch traveled to Farmington and was in the area when Krause disappeared and that he was also nearby.
He hears that Samuel Gooch flew from Wisconsin to Arizona to collect what he believed to be the rifle used in the murder. He was arrested Sunday in the Phoenix area. Authorities say they believe Samuel Gooch intended to take the rifle and possibly destroy it. Her brother, an airman at Luke Air Force Base on the west side of the Phoenix area, Mark Gooch, was charged with the death of Sasha Krause. She had been living in a Mennonite community in northwestern New Mexico before disappearing in January. Her body was found in February in the woods near Sunset Crater in northern Arizona.
Sasha Krause Missing
Krause, 27, was first reported missing in Farmington, New Mexico, in January. She was last seen picking up items from a church on January 18 and was found dead near the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument north of Flagstaff a month later.
Sasha Krause Body Found
Her body was discovered on February 21 near the Sunset Crater volcano and Wupatki National Monuments outside of Flagstaff, more than 270 miles (434 km) from where she was last seen. He wore the same clothes he wore outside the Farmington Mennonite Church. Krause had head injuries that authorities believe led to her death, but have not revealed how she was killed. The Coconino County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy report is not yet available.
The arrest stemmed from an incident in which Samuel Gooch arranged to pick up a weapon that Mark Gooch had given to a third party, according to the statement. Samuel flew from Wisconsin to Phoenix for the meeting with another family member, who the police have not publicly identified. The meeting was facilitated by detectives and agents from the Air Force Investigations Office, according to the statement. Samuel took possession of the weapon that he believed belonged to Mark, and detectives arrested him, according to the statement. Samuel was arrested and jailed at the Fourth Avenue Jail on suspicion of hindering prosecution and attempting to alter physical evidence in the investigation of the Krause murder, according to the statement. The other family member was released without charge at this time, the Sheriff’s Office said.
