William “Billy” Evans, a longtime veteran first responder, was selected as the Capitol police officer who died in an attack on a northern barricade.
“I am deeply saddened to share the news of the death of Officer William ‘Billy’ Evans on the North Barricade alone this afternoon from injuries sustained following an attack by an assailant,” wrote Yogananda Pittman, Deputy Chief of the US Capitol Police Chief.
He was one of two officers injured in the attack of a suspect with a knife, identified by MSNBC as 25-year-old Noah Green from Indiana. Authorities have not yet disclosed the name of the deceased suspect.
The situation of the second officer is not clear. The name of the second officer was not disclosed.

The suspect was shot and killed by the police.
“The suspect crashed his car into our two officers and then hit the northern barricade barrier … the suspect abandoned the vehicle with a knife in his hand,” the chief said. Our officers later caught this suspect. He did not respond to verbal commands. The suspect began making a move towards the US Capital police officers, while US Capital police officers opened fire on the suspect. It was announced that the suspect died. ”
The two officers were hospitalized. “I announce with a very heavy heart that you succumbed to the wounds of one of our officers,” Pittman said.

The murdered officer had worked in the organization for years.
Deputy Chief of Police for the US Capital Yogananda Pittman wrote in his testimony that Officer Evans “has been a member of the United States Congress Police for 18 years.” USCP started its service on March 7, 2003. ”

Evans’ death came after the Capitol riots, when multiple officers were wounded and wounded in Capitol Police. Officer Brian Sicknick passed away. He was repulsed by the rebels accused of attacking him, but it is unclear whether this caused his death.
