Winston Smith was an artist and comedian who was reportedly shot to death by sheriff’s deputies in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Police said he was armed and wanted on heavy firearm charges. Looting, rioting, and protests erupted at the same time as Smith was shot.

Minnesota court records reveal that Smith had a criminal history in Minnesota. He was convicted of first degree aggravated theft in 2017.
Court records name him as Winston Boogie Smith, Jr. This case made him a criminal. He was convicted of drug possession in 2018.
